Downtown Denver Engagement | Erin and Brian

Erin and Brian braved the cold, the rain, a lot of walking, and a slip and fall to get some of these photos. We did the typical REI to downtown loop via Commons Park with a few stops along the way. Erin and Brian have a great wedding planned this summer in Estes Park which will be here in no time……

Family Photos at Chautauqua in Boulder | Jamie, Wael, and Mattea

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph Jamie, her daughter Mattea, and Wael for a little Engagement/Family photos the other day in Boulder’s Chautauqua park. When we met, Mattea could barely look at me as she was extremely shy, but by the end of the shoot, she had become the star. Many thanks to all for being such great sports, and putting up with my crazy ideas.

An Overnight Shift With An Air Ambulance Crew

I had the absolute pleasure of hanging out with the Eagle Med 24 flight crew, which is assigned to a King Air 90 aircraft on a midnight shift as they provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) to the smaller towns of western Kansas, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We were dispatched just after midnight to pick up a 58 year old white male that had suffered a heart attack in the small town of Colby Kansas, and needed to quickly transport him to Hays Kansas which is where the nearest trauma facility was located. Besides being in the middle of the night, we had to also deal with a line of heavy rain and thunderstorms that had covered the area. A huge thanks to the flight crew for allowing me to tag along.

Family Photojournalism

So, there is this website called The Family Photojournalist who is run by Daniel Shaw and Chuck Anerino. Both whom are amazing photographers, and share this concept called family photojournalism. A lot of family and child photographers like to consider there family work photojournalism, but I believe what it really is, is more staged moments that are designed to look like a real event. There is nothing at all wrong with this, however, I think it starts to take away from what the true meaning of what “photojournalism” really is. Sometimes this means you are not going to have the most pretty, colorful, or classic photos you may be after, but instead real moments of what goes on in the day to day moments of your life. Below are a few photos I have taken over the past couple weeks of my daughter Taylor just being herself while hanging out with daddy at home. I hope to continue capturing moments in this more realistic style, as I see them as being more timeless as she gets older.
