When Alicia contacted me early this year to talk about her wedding at the Jefferson County Courthouse, I was thrilled to hear the uniqueness of the venue. Don’t get me wrong, I get to shoot at some absolutely beautiful places all around Colorado, but how often do you get to take pictures inside a courtroom. Anyhow, with just a few select friends and relatives, it was an extremely intimate ceremony that seemed to last maybe 10 minutes total. With the exception of a few posed pictures around the courthouse, I tried to keep this as real and photojournalistic as possible with pretty much zero editing. On a side note, I am currently reading the “Associated Press’s guide to Photojournalism” and it really goes into great detail on how a photojournalist needs to tell a story from his or her photos and their ethical responsibility to keep them authentic as keep editing to a bare minimum. Its tough as a wedding photographer to keep the photos so raw, as with out a little work they aren’t quite so spiced up, which more than often is important to pass on the emotion that goes along with a wedding. At Alicia and Rick’s wedding, regardless how hard you try, a courtroom is not exactly a 5 Star Hotel. With this in mind, I focused more on telling a story while in the courtroom, instead of trying to make everything look so sophisticated. I must say, I felt right at home working in this mode, as keeping it real is quite a challenge yet fun at the dame time. Two days after the ceremony Alicia and Rick hosted a dinner at Il Fornaio inside the Denver Tech Center. Enjoy…….
